Frequently Asked Questions
What is hypnotherapy?
(see What
is Hypnotherapy?)
What is hypnosis?
(See What is Hypnosis?)
Can everybody be hypnotised?
Yes. It is such a natural process that we go into and through it every
night just before we drift into sleep! It is brought about by a change
of focus – instead of concentrating on what is around you, you focus
inwardly. You may have noticed that you go into a trancelike state when
you are driving along a motorway that you know well, you find yourself
arriving without having thought too much about which way to go? When you
are listening to peaceful music (or to a boring speaker!) you may find
yourself losing focus and drifting……. And when you rock a
baby to sleep – that’s hypnosis!
What
does hypnosis actually feel like?
It is deeply relaxing, enjoyable and refreshing. You may feel as if you
are drifting or floating, you may feel heavy or light, you may tingle,
you may flush, your eyelids may flutter, you may find a tear or two in
your eyes. You may lose track of the passage of time. But you will enjoy
it! Most people feel as if they have not been in hypnosis, that it “hasn’t
worked for me” and that nothing has happened, but subtle positive
changes will occur, and you will realise its effectiveness.
Will
I lose control?
Definitely not. You will be completely aware of all that is being said
and you will only respond if you agree. In fact, the changes we set out
to achieve will only occur if you really want them.
Will
I fall asleep?
No. You may find yourself drifting off, but that is normal with relaxation,
and you will drift back again when I ask you to speak to me.
What
if I get stuck in hypnosis and you can’t wake me up?
That will never happen. Even if I didn’t wake you, (for some strange
reason – that would never happen?!) you would naturally wake up
when you wanted to. It’s just a natural process, your body is already
used to it.
Will I remember everything?
Yes, though probably not word for word!
Will
I be drowsy afterwards?
No, you will be even more alert and rested.
Will
I be able to drive, go back to work?
Yes.
Can
children be hypnotised?
Yes. Children enjoy hypnosis and the techniques I use are helpful to them..
For children I use a technique called “Blowaway” and/or “Journey”
which utilises their vivid imagination and which they enjoy. Some very
common issues for children are bed-wetting and fear of being bullied.
It is necessary for a parent or guardian to accompany children under 18.
Will
Hypnotherapy conflict with my religion, my faith or beliefs?
No. (See Hypnotherapy and Religion)
Do
you offer a free initial consultation?
Yes. I call it my “Free Chat first”, it usually lasts around
30-40 minutes without obligation. I will explain the process to you and
you can ask any questions you wish, to set your mind at rest about the
therapy and about me as the therapist. I always allow enough time for
you to commence therapy immediately after the free chat but only if you
wish it. This free chat is not normally required for smoking cessation.
How
much do your sessions cost?
It depends on the nature of the session –
(see fees page).
How
many visits will I need?
Very simple symptoms such as Stopping Smoking can be dealt with in just
a single session, which can be shared with a friend if you wish. (link
to fees page).
More 'deep rooted' anxieties or problems can take more time and more visits
depending on each individual case.
Do
you do home visits?
No, sorry. All “Free Chats” and sessions are held at my Parklands
Hypnotherapy Clinic.
What
hours and days do you work?
Mondays to Fridays from 9.30 to 5.00 (and some evenings if necessary).
Last appointment 7.30 p.m.
Will
I be able to park easily?
Yes. There is plenty of space outside the clinic.
What about the Liberation! Technique for
treating M.E?
The details are Here
How
do I book an appointment?
Phone or email me. You can ask to book a “Free Chat first”
or make an appointment for a session or both.
On occasion you may be directed to leave a message, but I respond to all
enquiries as soon as possible.
